Infertility Due to
Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus. It can contribute to infertility through inflammation, pelvic adhesions, ovarian endometriomas, and anatomical changes involving the ovaries or fallopian tubes.

Some women experience severe period pain, chronic pelvic pain, painful intercourse, or bowel-related symptoms, while others first discover endometriosis during an infertility evaluation.

Assessment may include a detailed reproductive history, pelvic ultrasound, and additional imaging or laparoscopy when clinically appropriate. Evaluation of other female and male fertility factors is also important.

Treatment depends on age, symptoms, ovarian reserve, disease severity, duration of infertility, and pregnancy goals. Options may include fertility planning, laparoscopic treatment in selected women, or assisted reproductive techniques when appropriate.
