Due to PCOS

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common causes of ovulatory infertility in women. Hormonal imbalance associated with PCOS can interfere with the regular growth and release of an egg from the ovary, resulting in irregular or absent ovulation and making natural conception more difficult.

Women with PCOS-related infertility may experience irregular or missed periods, difficulty predicting ovulation, weight gain, acne, excessive facial or body hair, or scalp hair thinning. However, some women may have relatively subtle symptoms.

Evaluation generally includes a detailed menstrual and reproductive history, clinical examination, pelvic ultrasound, and hormonal or metabolic investigations when indicated. Fertility assessment may also include evaluation of the partner and other factors affecting conception, because PCOS may not always be the only cause of infertility.

Treatment is individualized according to age, symptoms, weight, metabolic health, duration of infertility, and other fertility factors. Management may include lifestyle and weight optimization, treatment of metabolic abnormalities, and medications to induce ovulation. Additional fertility treatment may be considered when pregnancy does not occur despite appropriate first-line management.

With appropriate treatment, many women with PCOS can achieve ovulation and successful pregnancy. Early evaluation is particularly important when periods are very irregular or pregnancy has been delayed.
