Infertility Due to
Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are benign growths of the uterus. While many women with fibroids conceive naturally, certain fibroids—particularly those that distort the uterine cavity—may interfere with fertility or pregnancy.

Depending on their size and location, fibroids may affect implantation, alter the shape of the uterine cavity, or interfere with reproductive function. Women may also experience heavy periods, pelvic pressure, painful menstruation, or recurrent pregnancy loss.

Evaluation may include pelvic ultrasound and, when indicated, hysteroscopy, MRI, or other fertility investigations. Importantly, not every fibroid requires treatment before attempting pregnancy.

Management is individualized according to fibroid size, number and location, symptoms, age, fertility history, and reproductive goals. When treatment is necessary, fertility-preserving options may include hysteroscopic or laparoscopic myomectomy in appropriately selected patients.
