Ovulation Induction

Ovulation induction is a fertility treatment that uses medications to stimulate the ovaries to develop and release an egg. It is commonly considered for women who do not ovulate regularly or have difficulty conceiving because of ovulatory disorders, particularly those associated with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

Before starting treatment, a fertility evaluation is important to identify the cause of irregular ovulation and assess other factors that may affect conception. Depending on individual circumstances, evaluation may include menstrual and medical history, pelvic ultrasound, hormonal investigations, assessment of fallopian tube patency, and semen analysis of the male partner.

Ovulation-inducing medicines are selected according to the woman's age, diagnosis, ovarian function, previous treatment, and reproductive goals. Ultrasound follicular monitoring may be used to assess the development of ovarian follicles and help determine the appropriate timing for intercourse or further fertility treatment.

Treatment requires appropriate medical supervision because ovarian response varies between women. Monitoring also helps reduce risks such as multiple pregnancy and excessive ovarian response.

For women with PCOS and other ovulatory disorders, appropriate ovulation induction can improve the chances of conception. If pregnancy does not occur after an appropriate number of treatment cycles, further fertility evaluation or assisted reproductive options may be considered.
